During a ravenous war a flight evacuating a group of British schoolboys is shot down over an undiscovered tropical island. Ralph and Piggy two of the boys find a conch and Ralph uses it to summon the others. Once all the boys assemble they elect Ralph by a landslide because of his charisma. However sympathetically he elects Jack as the leader of the hunters.
Ralph, Jack and Simon, set off to explore the island. When they came back however Ralph demands they start a signal fire and they do so with Piggy’s glasses. Although the boys at first enjoy their lives on the island as care free fun, Ralph is angered by the boy’s unwillingness to work on important projects such as the signal fire and shelters. One day Piggy and Ralph discover a ship on the horizon but to their anger Jack and his hunters have allowed the fire to go out. Jack soon returns from hunting cheerful to have gotten a pig which angers Ralph further as their rescue has escaped. Ralph blows the conch intending to call an assembly reprimanding the hunters. But boys reveal that some of the little’uns are afraid of a beastie hiding in the forest which unsettles everyone. After the meeting a military battle in the sky sends a parachutist (dead) heading for the signal fire which scares the twins, who believe the parachutist is the beast. Jack, Ralph and some other boys then lead a group searching for the beast. The two boys coming increasingly less civil climb up the mountain and see the parachutist who looks like an ape. When they get back Jack tells the boys Ralph is a coward in a power grab but the boys are seemingly loyal to Ralph when Jack leaves with his hunters to form a new tribe. But by the time Ralph has started a signal fire most of the boys have left for Jack’s group. Jack organizes s hunt and places the slaughtered sow’s head on a stick as a sacrifice. Soon Simon see’s the pig’s head, believing it’s the Lord of the Flies. It speaks to him, and says that Simon will never escape him, for he exists within all men. Simon then goes up the mountain and finds the parachutist. Simon then travels to the beach to tell the boys what he has seen. However the boys are in a streak of anger and they murder Simon brutally. The following day Ralph and Piggy discuss what they did. Then Jack attacks and steals Piggy’s glasses. Ralph and his group travel to Jacks area but Jack refuses to see reason and he and Ralph begin to fight. Then Roger rolls a boulder off a cliff killing Piggy and shattering the conch. Ralph barely escapes. Ralph heads into the forest but the hunters set it on fire to smoke him out. He is soon forced on the beach and is shocked by the sight of a naval officer, Due to the knowledge there are safe but knowing what had happened Ralph and the boys begin to sob.
